Old Bedians have appointed Sam Whyte as the new club captain for the 2020/21 season.
Sam replaces Ben Rogerson who stood down after two successful seasons at the helm.
27 year-old Sam joined the club just two seasons ago and made an immediate impact in the 1st XV. Sam joined the club alongside his brother Alex and together followed in the long line of family duos and combos to grace the turf at Millgate Lane.
Sam, who plays as both a scrum-half and fly-half, joined the club having risen through the ranks of his boyhood team Preston Grasshoppers.
He was voted in as captain by his fellow teammates following a text poll on the shortlist of four shortlisted players. It is the first year the captaincy has been decided by text poll to follow the current Government guidelines on social distancing.
Commenting on his appointment as captain, he said:
"It's a great honour to be voted in as captain and I'm looking forward to the season getting going, whenever that may be. It's an exciting time for the club with a fresh start in a new league and I'm sure we will make a big statement".
Pre-season training is taking place every Saturday morning following the RFU guidelines.
